When Beaver Mechanical Contractors, Inc. (BMC) was established in 1964, most of our clientele was located in the Hagerstown area and our services were limited to plumbing. In February 1967, James C. Bryan (Jim) purchased the company and began operations in a small house in Beaver Creek, MD with only a few employees. Jim nurtured this fledgling business through numerous projects that increased in complexity and size along the way. After accomplishing piping-only jobs for the first couple decades … Jim sought-out sheet metal workers and technicians so that we could self-perform ductwork installations as well, adding the ‘air side’ of HVAC to our cache of services. This ‘full mechanical’ capability and new-found momentum enabled BMC to land numerous multi-million dollar industrial, institutional and commercial projects. Two more mechanical services were added in the 1990’s … medical gas systems and backflow preventer installation, inspection and testing.
Jim’s son Tim began his BMC career at age 14. Tim worked during every school break, stocking inventory and sweeping floors in the warehouse and occasionally riding shotgun in the delivery (gopher) truck. He worked as a laborer in the field and gained ‘hands-on’ mechanical ability. After graduating from Penn State in 1980 with a BS in Business Management, Tim began working full-time as an estimator and then project manager for some of the larger projects. In addition, he managed purchasing duties in the office. In 1986, Tim was named manager of BMC’s bath remodeling division (Gallery of Baths) while maintaining some of his construction-side duties. In 1989, he was named vice president and in 2006, he took over the reins as president and part owner. Tim became 100% owner when Jim retired in 2011.
In 2024, BMC celebrated Sixty Years in business. We are very grateful for the dedicated service of our past and present employees and for the many clients, vendors, manufacturer’s representatives and government agencies that have contributed to our success and longevity.
